Rampart Ridge, above Rachel and Rampart Lakes
Rampart Ridge can be accessed from Rampart Lakes or via the "backdoor", passing Lake Lillian and Lake Laura after a short scramble (or a long hike, passing Lake Margaret)
The ridge looks down on Rachel lake and Rampart lakes, Box Canyon, Hibox and Alta peaks. From the top, ridge views also take in the I-90 corridor when not fogged in like today.
The trail splits near the first pond. The shorter left trail, passes a few ponds and climbs upward to a saddle where to trail turns up to the ridge or down to Rampart Lakes. The right trail has views runs along the side of a ridge then turns up to eventually "cliff-out", although there is a notch in the cliff face that can be climbed down to the main trail. took both trail today.
